After watching 12 Angry Men for the first time, I’m very
impressed with the movie. I was very surprised that almost the whole movie was
shot in the same room. The other thing that also really surprised me was how
much prejudice towards the defendant and other people of lower class in that
one room. It shocked me that the jurors wanted to convict the defendant so
quickly and not even talk about it for an hour; and as more people started
leaning towards not guilty they wanted to tell the judge that they had a hung juror.
If the juror who voted not guilty in the beginning didn’t make that vote, the
whole process would have taken a whole five minutes to decide if someone lives
or die is kind of shocking. I was very surprised that the eleven other jurors
didn’t even want to take a little a bit of time to decide if someone was
actually guilty because they had better things to. I was very happy to see that when that one
juror went the prejudice rant about people from lower income areas not mounting
too much and having one juror one by one leaving the table an ignoring that
man. I really enjoyed watching the film and I agree with Rodger Ebert that the
movie “has a kind of stark simplicity” to it.
