True- First Impression Blog

This was a very interesting movie to watch. I found it amazing that the director was able to do so much in as a little as seven minutes. I do believe this is my film by Tom Tykwer that I have seen, but I will try an answer your questions. I think with short films directors kind of have to get to the point and be efficient with their stories because they do not have the luxury of time to draw out a story. Since I haven’t seen Tykwer’s other works, but if I extrapolate from this work I think his ideas are to look past peoples issues and find out what they are really like. I like his use of the MTV aesthetic. I feel by using this, Tykwer is able to help give the illusion of time passing that goes along with both monologues. I also think that blindness is a major symbol in this short film. I think when the two people fall for each other them become blind to time passing. I feel like that helps explain why they missed out on autumn. To also help this we can see blindness in their everyday tasks tended to be the same.

  1. See Run Lola Run to explore this issue more:

they do not have the luxury of time to draw out a story.

Tykwer is very much interested in time and changing our sense of how it must be experienced on film.
